Fare Hikes are Coming!

The Metropolitan Transit Authority is facing a 1.4 billion dollar deficit next year. It’s looking to make up some of that money by raising fares, and it has got some very vociferous opposition. But, as Eleanor Boudreau reports, there is a positive side to fare hikes.

Cycling Goes Up in a Falling Economy

The number of New Yorkers cycling to work has increased 35% in the past year. Part of that increase is due to Mayor Bloomberg’s relentless efforts to green NYC. But part of it is simple fiscal sense. Eleanor Boudreau has the story.
